Barn Conversion – Gym Installation

This project involved the complete renovation and conversion of a disused agricultural barn into a fully insulated and functional private gym.

Initial Condition:
The existing barn was in a poor state of repair, featuring a failing corrugated roof, extensive timber decay, and general structural deterioration.

Roof Replacement:
– Careful removal of the existing roof coverings and associated fixings.
- Structural assessment and reinforcement of existing roof trusses where feasible.
- Installation of a new breathable roofing membrane, treated battens, and high-quality slate tiles.
- All leadwork and flashings renewed to current standards.

External Fabric:
– External walls repaired and redecorated, including repointing and patching as required.
- Timber windows replaced in a traditional style to retain the character of the building.
- Rainwater goods renewed and adjusted for improved drainage.

Internal Works:
– Full insulation to roof and walls to meet thermal performance standards.
- Plasterboarding and skim throughout, with decorative timber beam features retained and treated.
- New electrical installation including lighting, power points, and heating provisions.
- Installation of durable flooring suitable for gym use.
- Supply and fit of modern pendant lighting and rooflights to enhance natural light.

Final Finishes:
– All joinery and wall surfaces finished in a clean, modern palette.
- Fixtures and fittings installed to create a practical and professional gym environment.
- Site fully cleared and handed over ready for client use.

Outcome:

The project successfully delivered the transformation of a redundant barn into a high-specification, climate-controlled gym, whilst retaining the integrity and character of the original structure. The result is a clean, bright, and functional space, sympathetically restored for contemporary use.
